Samba Meeting 1998

This page contains sound samples from the 1998 Samba Meeting in Amsterdam. Only a part of the batucada samples are given. There are samba reggae and more batucada samples that need to be sorted. Besides this there are four more years of samba meeting recordings available to sort out. This may take some time I'm afraid. Some encouragement will help in setting the priorities, so if you liked the samples and would like to see more, send an e-mail.

The files in this section are in MPEG3-format, 24kBit/s, 22.050Hz, mono, in order to keep them to an acceptable size. When this site was first set up in 1998, server space was more scarce and it was tried to save space in this way.

Samba batucada

The samba batucada samples were recorded during the workshop by the late Mestre Alcir, the director of the bateria of Mangueira.

Agogô
A simple basic pattern and an elaborate solo.

Breaks
Two simple batucada breaks.

Caixa (snare drum)
Two basic patterns, combinations of patterns and the Mangueira and Mocidade patterns.

Surdo
Surdo de terceiro, including corte and the surdo groove with call and corte.

Repinique
Repinique calls, a 'floreo' and a two minute solo by Mestre Alcir.
